ABOUT THE ARTIST
I studied art in high school and then went on to graduate as an art teacher in a four year fine arts program in Johannesburg, South Africa. After immigrating to Canada in the late 1970s I chose to study further at the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD) and graduated as an editorial designer.
For over 30 years I loved being an editorial designer and art director but being a commercial artist means always having to please a client. It was a joy to return to creating my own personal projects and expressing myself.
I’m inspired by the organic shapes in nature, by shadow and light, sky and water, rocks, twigs, petals, leaves. My garden is a joy, full of wildly different textures and shapes. I’m intrigued and passionate about colour, all colours!

PAINTING
I painted in oils for many years and then tried watercolours. I’ve been painting in acrylics since 2013 and find them versatile and the most exciting. For the last few years I’ve been experimenting with mixed media, adding collage, ink, marker and other materials to my paintings. I paint in layers, responding to each layer as I go, building up a rich base and then finally finishing it with careful details.PRINTING
Some years ago I discovered monoprinting with a Gelli plate. I use slow drying open acrylics which gives me time to experiment and consider.
